Melissa H. Hunter, MD
Island Medical focuses on providing state-of-the-art medical care for all ages. As a board-certified physician, Dr. Hunter has extensive specialty training in women's health and an assortment of other treatments and services that provide a long-term solution to all of your needs. Our goal is to ensure the optimal patient experience for all of our clients.
Dr. Hunter attended medical school at the University of South Carolina and went on to complete her family medicine training at McLeod Regional Medical Center in 1987. She received her faculty development fellowship from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996 and has remained an active member in the South Carolina Academy of Family Practice, the South Carolina Medical Association and the Charleston County Medical Society. Dr. Hunter has also taught as an associate professor at MUSC and has practiced as a physician in both Georgetown and Daniel Island.
Dr. Hunter is board certified with the American Board of Family Practice to treat all aspects of family medicine but specializes in women's health including polycystic ovary syndrome and menopause. Some of her other professional skills include IUD placement, Implanon insertion/removal, and biopsy and excision of skin cells. She is also an avid and loyal Gamecock supporter.
